Health Professions Advising Unit

Welcome to the Health Professions Advising Unit (HPAU) of Clark Atlanta University (CAU) website. This site has been constructed to guide you and inform you about our services. HPAU of Clark Atlanta University (CAU) was established in the Fall of 2017 to advise students enrolled in any major about post-baccalaureate careers in the health professions (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Optometry, Veterinary medicine, and Physician Assistant). HPAU’s goal is to prepare students to become competitive applicants for health professional schools and programs.

Jump Start Your Healthcare Career Today

The Health Professions Advising Unit is located in suite 3049 on the third floor of the Thomas Cole Research Center for Science and Technology.

Preparation for success in medical and health professional schools begins early and continues throughout matriculation at CAU. Our mission is to provide academic and professional support for students and to increase the number of African American students and under-served population groups going to medical and health professional schools.

The preparation for professional school may include internships, academic exploration, and extracurricular activities aimed at developing personal attributes valued in the health professions.  We offer one-on-one advising, group sessions, and informational workshops and events.

Why Study Here?

The Health Professions Advising Unit (HPAU) serves all Clark Atlanta University (CAU) undergraduates and graduate students pursuing any health profession.  Advisors use a holistic approach while providing support and feedback during academic and application preparation. We encourage students to be proactive and reflective during their career decision-making.

It is important for you to register with HPAU if you are interested in pursuing a health profession. Please be aware that by self-identifying as a pre-health student and registering with our office, you are not committing to a career or major. By letting us know you are interested in a future health profession, we will have a better sense of how many students plan to go into each field and use that information to guide future programming.

Please make sure to read through all the resources provided to you through the website.  Students can drop in with questions or schedule an appointment with a health professions advisor by simply emailing  healthprofessions@cau.edu or utilizing HANDSHAKE. If you are new to HPAU, we ask that you fill out this short registration form to begin the advising process.
